NY Doctor Accused of Selling Prescription Drugs to Teens

Police have arrested a doctor in Massapequa, New York who is accused of selling the drug OxyContin to patients from his offices directly across the street from a high school, according to the Long Island Press. Dr. Saji Francis is charged with helping to enable teens with their drug addiction by providing them with drugs such as OxyContin without a prescription.

One of the patients for Dr. Francis was Timothy Kroll, whose parents say developed a serious prescription drug abuse problem after being treated by Dr. Francis for psychological problems. Kroll died earlier this year after a four-year struggle with OxyContin that involved countless failed trips to one drug addiction program after another.

However, police in Massapequa say that Dr. Francis apparently thought that he was blameless for his actions.

“He did not think he did anything wrong,” says Det. Jayne Collins. “The staff was surprised, and his wife, who works in the office as a receptionist, was shocked.”
