Remedies for a Flaky Scalp
Not only is a flaky scalp embarrassing, it can also get quite irritating. Most people tend to have dry scalps, and complain of it being itchy. This leads to dandruff as well. This is usually aggravated by frequently using shampoo, hair color, cosmetics and being constantly exposed to hard water, pollution and even the constant consumption of junk food. If you suffer from a flaky scalp, do not worry. Here are a few tips to help you:
Water
Before you resort to all the expensive cures available in the market, consider the easiest treatment in the convenience of your home. A flaky scalp is caused by the lost of moisture in the skin. Therefore, all you need to do is drink lots of water. Drink at minimum 2 liters of water per day, and top that off with a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits, and your dry scalp will be well on its way to a full recovery.
Cosmetics
People do a lot of things for the sake of fashion, some of them causing damage which is irreparable sometimes. The overuse of shampoos which give your hair that unmistakable sheen and silkiness all contain harmful chemicals such as sodium beryl sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol which over time will affect the level of oil on your scalp making it dry and flaky.
Avoid Heat
Heat can affect your dry scalp and make it worse. Therefore hot showers, long exposure to the sun, hair dryers and curling irons must be avoided as much as possible.
Oil Treatment
Massage your scalp using any one of these healing, essential oils: jojoba, sandalwood, lavender or geranium. Mix a few drops along with some olive oil or coconut oil and warm it, and then massage it onto your scalp and leave overnight. You can wash it off the next day. Follow this for around a fortnight.
