Curing Bad Breath During a High Protein Diet

If you are wondering why you have bad breath, and believe that your high protein diet is the cause, you are half right. The general belief is that some chain reaction caused by the overabundance of proteins in your system causes the bad breath and that it is an unavoidable side effect of a proper workout regime. The proteins that you consuming are not the cause of your bad breath. In fact, it is the complete opposite, when your body tries to burn fat in the absence of carbohydrates, there is a huge buildup of something called ketones in the blood. These ketones leave your body through your breath instead of through their urine or via sweating, and that, is the main cause of why people on high protein diets suffer from bad breath.

The best way to cure bad breath from a high protein (and low carbohydrate) diet is to add some healthy carbohydrates to your daily food intake. Most meats as well as sea food are the best sources of protein but if you do your research you will find protein in some vegetables as well. Beans are a wonderful source of protein and is a vegetable. Beans have loads of protein as well as some fat content. If the vegetable route is not for you, then become an avid water drinker, the increase in your water consumption will help get those ketones out of your body the way they are supposed too which is through your urine.
